Forgive the newbie-esque question, but I just snagged a nice little Cobra on eBay that has an NC-2 in it. I know I must swap it out for either an NC-1 or NC-8, but all I'm seeing online are motors in the $23.95 range, and I assume that's without the requisite adapter. Is there another cheaper way? Are the older motors available somewhere somehow for less? Is there any talk of allowing the NC-2 that comes with the newer cars at some point, or are we saddled with this expensive "solution" for evermore?

Hi Eddie, I doubt that Stephen will ever allow NC-2 motors in this class because there are too many more cars that came originally with NC-1 and the latest issues are coming with NC-8's, which means those would have to be retrofitted if we allowed NC-2's and we'd have the same problem again in reverse. The NC-8's do come with the adapter for that price at least, and anyone buying the latest issue Cobras, Ferrari's, or Corvettes will get the NC-8 with nothing else to buy. The other option would be to allow the BWA motor that is relatively cheap, but is just enough faster than the NC-1's and NC-8's that everyone would have to change over to be competitive.

Eddie,
I have a few NC1s left over from my days of racing these motors, and I might have a set of adaptors too.
Drop me a mail at samsonclassics"at"gmail.com with a mailing address and I will put a motor and a set of adaptors (if I can find them) in the mail for you.
What I found on the NC1 for NC2 swap-out in some cars is that you may need to install the NC 1 upside-down to get enough clearance at the front of the motor without cutting away at the interior of the body (which no doubt would raise the ire of the Dictator, right Stephen?). The NC1 brushgear makes the motor taller than the NC2, but there's usually so much ground clearance on the old car that there's no issue with the brushgear being underneath.
