SCX F1 1970/80's Series Race 3 2010 Race 17 May. 1, 2010 Riverside Raceway
Racing on Michael Smalley's Carrera track, the extra width allowed the drivers to waggle a bit more than usual with less risk of punting. Heats 4 and 5 had some highlights; in number four, Tom Giese pulled a double longitudinal roll (look that one up, cruciverbalists) and landed back in his own slot; pity that points are not awarded for style. Heat 5 was the highest-scoring among the four drivers (it helped that the top four racers were in that one); yours truly, though, was the victim of a "half-Nelson" (Nigel) in heat 8. Collectively, it added up; fourth through ninth places were spanned by 0.9 laps, including a three-way tie for fourth.

SCX F1 1970/80's Series Race 2 2010 Race 12 Mar. 20, 2010 Silverlake Speedway
The open-wheelers took over; now it was their turn to avoid each other, what with their compulsion to throw each other around when rubber meets rubber. Yours truly had the fast lanes first and raced out to a lead, but as usual, could not race from the lead. With the usual suspects racing last, ready to break a young (ahem) racer's heart, and with a scoring issue resolved after the totals were announced, they swept the podium again, pushing Y.T. and Eddie Shorer down one position to fourth and fifth, respectively. (Ouch!)

SCX F1 1970/80's Series Race 1 2010 Race 9 Mar. 6, 2010 Nigelstone
A chilly track and chilly tires meant that we were driving on eggshells with the open wheelers, and again, there was more punting going on than a football game. Some emergency repairs were effected on two loaner cars that broke during practice, but this didn't put anyone at a decided disadvantage; in fact, some regular loaner drivers were up near the top of the sheet. Daniel Snipes put it all together in his final heat to upset Michael Smalley, with usual-suspect-in-training Eddie Shorer good enough for bronze. The "Tom-Tom Club" (Tom Giese and yours truly) rounded out the top five.
