Drivers' Championship Series Race 3 2010 Race 16 Apr. 17, 2010 Silverlake Speedway
Another set of Le Mans cars took the track for the next race, this time a mixed batch of cars from the late seventies and early eighties Group 5 class. Given the grippiness of the previous race, we were at a total loss as to how these would perform. Once we got going, the answer was clear: variable!! The outers were a bit tippy, and the orange loaner was just flat-out evil (see the table for car-lane assignments.) Over all the grousing, Michael Smalley returned to the top flight of the podium, followed by Terry DLS and Craig Williamson.

Drivers' Championship Series Race 2 2010 Race 8 Mar. 6, 2010 Nigelstone
A blast from the past was the selection for this round of the Driver's Championship-2-wheel-drive SCX models from various forms of racing (mainly GT1 racing); our old friend, the Porsche 911 with the stubby rear wheels made its comeback, along with a Lancia Rally 037, BMW M1, and a Ferrari F40. The first few heats could have stood some heat, as they slipped and slid all over, handicapping some of the top drivers; once they started to bite, they delivered better totals for all. Michael Smalley had a particular problem with the race in that, due to the seeding of the entrants (based on last year's results), he had two heats with some, shall we say, "animosity"; racers with whom he has had issue (Terry DLS and, ahem, moi) flanked him during those heats. As of heat 11, Smalley had leapfrogged Terry and Eddie for first place; now he had to sweat it out as those with one more round to go challenged for another upset, or at least a spot on the podium. Oddly enough, the sweat turned cold as Daniel Snipes completed a rare double for him, edging Michael by a mere 0.2 laps. Terry DLS managed third (so nature, though slightly altered, was not violated), with Eddie Shorer fourth and new suspect-in-training Tom Giese fifth; with this class, the century club only extended down to seventh, claimed by Craig Williamson in the last heat.

Drivers' Championship Series Race 1 2010 Race 1 Jan. 16, 2010 Riverside Raceway
Round 1-Driver's Championship (60s Monogram NASCAR)
Dan Gurney, A. J. Foyt, Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson renewed their virtual rivalry on the ghost road of yesterday as we recreated the 1965 Motor Trend 500 at the famed Riverside Raceway; A. J. was probably less fond of the memory, as it was this race in which he broke his back when his throttle stuck open heading into Turn 9 (the banked turn), sidelining him for a while. (While recovering, he had a similar incident at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but had a much less dramatic ending; in that same race, A. J. took over Marvin Panch's car when he took ill and won it for him.) In our version, Terry DLS got a hot start on blue (heats 5 and 6 were good all around, with everyone over 30 laps), only to be overtaken by (who else? It's his track) Michael Smalley, with the other usual suspects in hot pursuit. They ended up sweeping the podium like usual, with new suspect-in-training Eddie Shorer a mere tenth off in fourth. (Due to size, the table for Round 1 will be shown after the Round 2 account.)
