11/28/2009
The final race of the 2009 OTHG Slot.it Group C Le Mans Championship was a night endurance race at Farrout Raceway. More than one and a half hours were run in darkness.

Starting with the lights on, each team ran one lane allowing the drivers and marshals to familiarize themselves with the circuit. And you had better have learned well, because with the lights off it was dark. There was a nearly full moon that night, but very little light made its way in through the open garage door. The Slot.it cars looked amazing as they streaked around the track with head and tail lights ablaze. Staying on became especially important, because the marshals could barely see the track. At times cars were mis-marshaled and circulated around the track two per lane, until someone finally noticed. Then it became difficult to sort out which car belonged on which lane. It was that dark.

Lights were restored for the fourth heat/lane and eventually a new championship result dawned. Michael Smalley retained the 2009 Slot.it Championship lead he had held all year, but amazingly my team's win boosted me to second, landing me above Daniel Snipes in third, and Terry De Los Santos in fourth. Newcomer Tom Giese finished fifth in the championship, followed by Thomas Lauffenberger in sixth, Bob Beck in seventh and JR Ewing in eighth. Chris Chan finished the year ninth and Eddie Shorer tenth.
