Slot-it Group C and Le Mans
RACE 7
Dec 15, 2007
Bruce's Circuit Villeneuve

The way we raced today, who could tell that anything was on the line? Actually, not much was; this title was locked up. In the end, Daniel Snipes claimed a class victory, but Michael Smalley had already sewn up the class championship. Craig Williamson claimed today's bronze, with everything else sorting itself out according to the usual plan.

RACE 5
Aug 4, 2007
Stan's Auto Dromo Baia Della Sud

"The track was fast and tensions were high" – Jim Wolfe's classic comment summed up the second race well. Mixing these two classes for a meet was like mixing Cessnas and F-15s, which made for some interesting racing indeed, so much so that the voltage was reduced all the way down to 9v; too much more would have put the computer monitor on the front stretch in jeopardy (perhaps a mount will be our next project.)

In what is becoming a recurring theme, Smalley and Snipes (sounds like a law firm, no?) took the top two spots. (As they are fighting it out for club championship honors and were separated by only 2 points before today's action, this is only to be expected.) Chris Chan pulled the second podium surprise of the day, finishing third, with Gary and John Emmons rounding out the top 5. Yours truly finished out of the top 10 in both races today, easily turning in his worst performance since joining the club three years ago. ~ Thomas L.

RACE 4
July 21, 2007
Stan's Auto Dromo Baia Della Sud

Race 2 of the day was fought with the beautiful Slot-It cars. Slot-It continues to introduce new cars and new liveries, which now make this one of the most fun classes to race and watch. Many of the heats featured four different makes, supplanting what was once an all Porsche class. A Porsche still took top honors however in the more than capable hand of Daniel Snipes. Michael was able to use his Jaguar to finish second. I am sure he is hoping Ford will not sell Jag, or he may have to sit-out this class next year. Yeah, right. Bob Scott continued his charge as one of the best drivers in the club to take third place, and Gary once again showed well in this class for a fourth with top fives on all four lanes. Craig and Thomas completed the top six. Again a number of drivers had top fives for a lane, without top finishes. They were Chris Chan, Mike Pawl, Stan Smith and Bruce Talamon.

Michael's Riverside Raceway

New Mid-Pack Wolves
By Thomas Lauffenberger

Another change below the top two; Gary Woods got bronze here (guess the handyman who built the podium gets to stand on it now!) Cruisin’ Bob got another 4th place, with Terry DLS turning in another fine performance. Yours truly did better, but still wishes he had hung around the buffet—he’d have had better luck there. (We all would have, but, that’s racing…)

Using the loaner cars, Michael and Daniel finished 1-2 in both of today's races. Even the best-of-the-rest still have something to learn from these two. Congrats to both of you.CW

RACE 2
Mar. 17, 2007
Farrout Raceway

A large group of racers and friends gathered at SFJ's Farrout Raceway to contest the 4wd and Slot-It races. With the newly required Ortmann tires the Slot-It cars have become very fun to drive, and are also very fast. The combination led to an eventful race.

The three most consistent drivers of the day must have been Michael, Daniel and Jim Wiseman. The bulk of the rest were bouncing up and down the standings with crashes and other mishaps. Michael won again, but now Daniel was only 0.2 laps behind. Gary Woods took a notable third, with Jimmy Wolfe in 4th and Jim Wiseman and Mike Pawl, 5th and 6th; fine runs for all. Tim Neja scored a stout Top Five on orange, dragging Craig along to a Top Five on white.
