2006 Ninco GT1 Le Mans Race Reports

Ninco GT1 Le Mans Race 7 at Michael Smalley's Riverside raceway

The loaner cars were superb and most people used them, even Michael whose own "little purple number" had a total cornering breakdown 30 seconds before racing started and couldn't handle that tight little turn and drop at all!

Daniel and Chris Chan cheated, and used BMW's and of course finished well, but the rest of us used the loaners apart from Gary and Mike Pawl who used their own McLaren and a Porsche, and look where it got them!

At the end... Daniel made a statement by winning this on Michael's track but it was by less than a lap. Baer in mind, that Michael had been forced into using Loaners.  Chris Chan was comfortable in 3rd and Nigel had a good day to take 4th.  Jim Wiseman making an always welcome appearance took 5th (a little rusty perhaps) with Bill S. taking 6th and surely losing any vestige of newbie tag.  Jim Wolfe, Craig and Thomas filled the next places, everyone here was separated by just a few laps.  Gary who had a brilliant couple of drives recently slumped a little in this one.  And Mike and Bill had the sort of drives they will wish to drop at seasons end.

Race 6 TalaMonaco
For our first ever race at TalaMonaco Michael appropriately took his Saleen (McLaren chassis) to its first ever win.  Michael beat Daniel into 2nd by just over 3 laps (just over 12 seconds on this tight track), while Chris C took 3rd 5 laps behind Daniel.  In 4th was Rene a further 4 laps back, while Nigel took a great 5th just 7/10ths of a lap in front of Jim Wolfe in 6th.   Stephen bit his lip just 1/10th of a lap back in 7th while John bit his lip even harder another 1/01th of a lap further back in 8th.  Rounding out the Top 10 were Stan in 9th and Laurent with a strong run into 10th.

Ninco GT1 Le Mans Race 4, Mr Model Car Raceway

Daniel drove the nuts off his always well prepped cars to take the win by just over 3 laps.  In the battle for second Micheal S pipped Rene by 6/10ths of a lap who in turn beat the host Chris C by 4/10ths of a lap.  Between them they took 4 of the Top 5 heats of the day on every lane.  Far behind the Top 4 was Stephen in 5th nearly 4 laps down on Chris C but staying just 6/10ths of a lap ahead of Gary, despite Gary getting into the Top 5 of the day on both Red and Blue lanes.  In 7th was Thomas who kept himself well clear of Russell in 8th place who in turn stayed 2 laps ahead of Tim in 9th.  Stan took 10th.

Ninco GT1 Race 3 Team Race, SSI Raceway

We had a full complement of 20 drivers for 4 teams of 5 each.  Heats were 51 minutes giving 10 minutes per driver and a compulsory 1 minute pitstop.  For the race the host Rene and his team beat us soundly.  While it was only 1.8% better than second place that does represent 25 laps in the winning total of 1418.1 laps for Rene’s team.  Daniel’s team took 2nd in the last heat 12 laps ahead of Michael’s team in 3rd.  Dennis’ team was a further 4.8 laps behind, ably handicapped by yours truly.  Both the 3rd and 4th placed teams were handicapped by a necessary axle change to the car in yellow lane causing some extra de-slotting but that is racing!  Even with a potential extra 20 laps it would only have made for a tighter 2 thru 4th place finish.  None of us could touch the deserved winners of Rene, Chris C, Stan S, Russell, and Craig as they set best of day results on every lane by at least 2 laps.

Ninco GT1 Le Mans Race 2: 4 March 2006

For our second race of GT1 in 2006 Daniel ran away and hid from the rest of us taking 1st by 9/10ths of a lap ahead of Chris R in 2nd even though Chris had a "bad" run on white.  Rene was just pushed into 3rd by 3/10ths of a lap but squeezed by the host Chris C in 4th by 2/10ths.  In 5th was Michael ahead of Stephen in 6th.  John came 7th, Thomas 8th and MIke, Richard C and Nigel - in that order - finished a total of a half lap apart to round out the Top Ten'ish.

Ninco GT1 Le Mans Race 1: 21 January 2006

This was the first race with the addition of weight to cars in the GT1 class.  The minimum 90 grams on the BMW V12's led to just 3 of these cars being raced, two of them very well prepared by Daniel.  From my point of view the change has brought freshness to the class with new faces (for this class) in 1st and 2nd and 3 two-way ties in the field and 8 other placings determined by just 1/10th of a lap.  That's 14 out of 18 placings decided by 1/10th of a lap

Dennis ran away with it in his McLaren F1 GTR SOK.  Daniel showed the BMW V12 is still capable with second place a lap and a half behind.  Rene just beat Michael into 3rd by 1/10th of a lap after Micheal had a very exciting afternoon talking a LOT to his motors and his beloved Saleen (on a McLaren chassis).

Stephen completely "spat the dummy" in the Red lane heat to come a lucky 5th just 2/10ths of a lap ahead of both Gary Woods in his Mercedes and John Emmoms in Daniel's BMW V12 who tied for 6th.  The host Nigel in 8th missed a 3-way tie by the smallest possible margin - likely due to an expert nerfing by Stephen.  Jim Wise man took 9th and Stan Smith and Jim Wolfe tying for 10th place.
