Well the 2005 4WD championship went back to Rene by the
barest whisker after Stephen won it in 2004. Despite Stephen winning more of
the sprint races (3 of 5), Rene beat Stephen in 2 out of 3 of the head to head sprint races and took the Team Race to take
the championship in his Ford Focus by 4/10ths of a point ahead of Stephen’s Citroen in 2nd. In retrospect it all came down to the 4/10ths of a lap that Rene
beat Stephen by at the Mr. Model Raceway race. Tight and fun!
Michael Smalley took 3rd
with a win, three 2nds, two 3rds, a 4th and a 6th in his Ford Focus. Jim Wiseman used the loaner cars to good effect getting the team win, a 3rd, a 4th
and an 8th for an overall 4th place replicating his efforts of last year. Thomas also defended his result from 2004 taking 5th this year as well with the loaners achieving
the team win, a 4th and two 6ths. Dennis took equal 6th
with Daniel, both of them moving up with their strong performances in the last race of the year (2nd and 4th
respectively) and both using Citroen’s. A relatively poor run, by his lofty
standards, to 6th in the last race slipped Chris R down to 8th overall with a 2nd, two 4ths
and the 6th. In 9th place was Jim Wolfe with the team win
and consistent 8th and 9th places. Rounding out the Top
10 was Gary
with a Team second and a fine 5th early in the year keeping him above Alvin and Mike Pawl in a tied 11th
place.
Below are the points table
and all the individual race results.
